DELHI METRO

Delhi metro was a dream of layman In Delhi .When they saw a subway train in london and in japan. The journey of metro started actually in may 1995 when Delhi Metro Rail corporation was registered. The steady increase in the Delhi metro is due to the able leadership of Managing director Dr E Shreedharan .He played a significant role in Delhi metro construction.E Shreedharan's professional work culture'high values's ,social responsibilities ,Safety policies and honest dedication towards work make it possible and laid an example for whole country as it looked impossible due to congestion on roads  and political interference in india.Delhi metro has evolved as a world class organisation under the honest and dedicated leadership of Shri EShreedharan .For building Delhi metro he is also popular by the name  Metro Man.Delhi metro now has a vast network in Delhi and national capital region The total length of its network is 348kms with 10 lines and 284 operational stations as on june 2020.The construction work for fourth phase is currently is on
GENESIS OF DELHI METRO
The central road institute Carries out a bulk study on traffic and travel characteristics of Delhi, based on transport demand projection for 1981 and submits its report. In 1975 the metropolitan transport project Delhi conducts surveys and recommends a mass rapid transit system (MTRS) network comprising of 36 km of underground corridors and 97km of surface/elevated corridors. In the year 1984 Delhi development authority presented a plan for the city traffic in projection of 2001 and recommended multi model transport system comprising 200km light rail transit system 10km of tramway and extension of surface rail system and an extensive road network. The urban arts commission suggested modification and development of the existing ring railway with three radial under ground mass transit corridors.
1n the year 1987 the ministry of railways appointed task force to assess the choice of technology and recommended a pilot project based on magnetic levitation system and light rail transit system. In the year 1990 The Rites Limited submitted a feasibility report on integrated multi model mass rapid transport system .Rites recommended a dedicated bus and metro corridors of total length of 199 km approximately. But finally in the year 1995 The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited was registered on may 3 1995 under the companies act 1956. It has equal equity of state and central government. DMRC is a special purpose organisation vested with great autonomy and power to execute this gigantic project involving many technical complexities under difficult and congested urban conditions and with in a very limited period of time. In the September 1996 the government of india approved the first phase of Delhi Metro .The construction work on Delhi Metro Project started on October 1,1998.Metro first runs on 25 December 2002 between shahdara to Tis Hazari on red line.
BENEFITS OF DMRC
Delhi became capital in the year 1912 under the British RULE. Then it was clean and beautiful city. Everyone wanted to live here .Made initially to cater the population of 70000 the total population of delhi when Metro started was 18 million. As city grows in size the number of vehicles on the road increases. Leading to severe traffic jams chaos on the roads pollution etc. This necessitated once the level of traffic along any travel corridor in one direction exceeds 20000 persons per hour.

The studies were conducted by Government to implement of mass transit system.  The study resulted in need of rail based transit system which is not only capital intensive but also has long gestation periods.

Delhi metro is a social sector project whose benefits will pervade over all sections of economy and society.  A rail based transport system like Metro has a high carrying capacity and non polluting  It uses  one fifth of energy per passenger km compared to road based system. Moreover it is fast reliable  comfortable safe pollution less for passengers.
It also benefits those who are not using it
By reducing congestion on road thus makes road travel in the city faster.
By reducing pollution level
By saving energy benefits economy
By saving man hours
The metro has became the backbone of city transport and today people recognize it as fast reliable and comfortable means of travel.

METRO  STATIONS
Metro stations are designed such that maximum number of commuters can enter and exit in shortest possible time.Every station has a concourse where token counters and automatic fare collection gates are located and platforms level from where trains can be boarded .Movements in the different level of the station can be done by stairs escalators and elevators. Most of the stations are provided with the parking facility. A customer care centre is located near automatic fare collection gates at all stations.
Delhi metro has revolutionised the way the people of the city commutes.Delhi metro is not just a transport system but a social platform. The people of Delhi loves to travel by it.There is a slogan also "Delhi metro mera metro " . I love to travel by metro as it is safe and comfortable and pollution free . I am passionate about it. I also met the girl in metro but cant Express my feelings because at that time I got married. My first experience of Delhi metro is in the year 2003 when on Monday I boarded it from inderlok to partap hagar by reaching inderlok station by bus.Metro has started its first commercial track on 24 December 2002 from shadara to Tis hazari. The then prime minister inaugurated it and took a joy ride with his team of officers and ministers.  METRO MAN E SHREEDHARAN JI

MR NARINDER MODI
The credit of this dream come true should be given to the Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji .Indian government has plans to run metro rail in Delhi from 1970 but could not execute, but Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee did it.The japanese government helped in execution of this project not only financially  but also technical help was provided by japan . Japan international corperation agency had financed Delhi metro . Japan is  still helping  India to lay tracks for Delhi Metro in phase 4 construction work. Japan is major  partner in this project .Japanese helped DNRC in all phases of construction of Delhi Metro. It might not be possible without them .Some part of its revenue is also  given to  japan (JICA).  In case of loan provided by them.Mr E Shreedharan also known as Metro Man was the first Managing director of Delhi Metro. Due to his leadership and honest efforts Making of Delhi Metro has possible. It looks impossible to lay tracks in Delhi for metro ,as it is very congested city densely populated and the influence of politicians in india is a culture.DMRC build under ground stations in congested areas like chandni chowk and the deepest station at chawri bazar ,which was looking impassable as  For Indian context. Mr E Shreedharan had also  the credit of constructing  konkan railways. He has made some wonders for India. He is very honest and humble man.He used to say that the reward and credit for constructing Delhi metro is not of his alone but of the whole DMRC team as he alone has not done all the work but he also says he is lucky enough to have a good team. Currently Delhi Metro 's phase 4  construction work is underway. Delhi Metro has a network of 389 kms with 284 stations and 10 lines in operation as on
July 2020.Now a days Delhi Metro is closed for commercial passenger service as for the pandemic covid 19,it is closed for first time in its 18 years of  passengers service .Delhi  Metro has not been closed for a single day before 22 march in its 18 years of  public commute. The hard work of Mr E Shreedharan and his team paid as Delhi metro has become back bone and most popular public transport in Delhi. Mr Mangu Singh is Managing director of DMRC as Mr E Shreedharan had retired in the year 2011. Delhi Metro taught Indians that if a team take true and honest path with principles than nothing is impossible. Delhi Metro team has been given free hand it has no influence of politicians otherwise in india a bridge of 1 km took 15 years to build  before the commencement of Delhi Metro.  The trains and stations are  clean. There are food kiosks and shops of chemist and food joints food courts etc at concourse level of stations.Eating ,drinking and smoking are prohibited in Delhi Metro.I used to travel by metro mostly from pitampura to pulbangsh and  chandni chowk. Sometimes I have travelled by metro pink line to visit nizzamuddin dargah. I love to travel by metro. I have travelled thousands of times  by Delhi metro and have a different stories to tell each time. The commuters in Delhi metro are from all class of the society..Mostly middle class people travel by Delhi metro. The people travel by it are mostly office staff working in government and private institutions  or shop owners in old Delhi like chandni chowk and sadar bazar etc and students also used to travel by it. Sometimes it is very ranting and enjoyable ride in Delhi metro. Many of celebrities like prime  minister  shri Narinder modi ,shri Rahul Gandhi  kapil sharma ,Tapsee pannu (actreas)Manishanker Ayer and many more  have enjoyed travelling by Delhi Metro. Delhi metro is also appreciated by film and TV serial makers from Bollywood.  Some movies shooting is done in Delhi metro trains and stations like Delhi 6 ,paa a film of kareena kapoor also have shooted in metro and many more. Delhi metro is the first transit system to be certified by United nations  for reducing  green house gas emission as it helps in reducing the pollution level by 6.3 lakes ton every year thus reducing . The US Green building council awarded green build leadership award to DMRC for the year 2017 and 2020 and many more uncountable awards were given to DMRC . If you travel by metro you are free from traffic jams ,road chaos and road rage pollution etc .Delhi metro also made travel easy in remote areas of Delhi and NCR like faridabad, Ghaziabad, Greater noida ,Bahadurgarh , Gurugram and Dwarka etc where people without their own conveyance used to struggle .Trams used to run in old Delhi from 1908 upto the year  1963 from chandni chowk ,sadar bazar , Subzi Mandi Ghanta Ghar and terminated at partap bagh Tripolia gate . Pillars of electric over head electrical wire are still can be seen today in some areas like indira market.,these pillars are now used for hanging street  lights.

Metro is fast and safe means of transport.CISF personnel are very honest and cooperative with commuters.CISF staff has returned many valuables and heavy cash of commuters which they have forgotten at stations or at x ray machines. The CISF staff unlike police staff have  never bothered commuters for any reasons. Initially the security and frisking was done by Delhi police they used to  bother and harass passengers for small things ,as they asked a commuter a young boy to show bill for the goods he was carrying which can hamper the ridership. On the other hand CISF staff is maintaining a good  safe and cushioned environment for commuters so that they can enjoy the journey. The environment created by CISF personnel is also responsible for the success of Delhi Metro

Delhi metro is faster and more comfortable than your own car. Also you can't be bored while travelling in it ,as you interact with people from all the communities  of society .your physical activity  gets done while  travelling in the metro  when you walk on stairs and on station  unlike your own car or a cab where you have to ride on a small seat whicb is not good for your liver health shown by medical studies. Delhi metro has also its first coach reserved for ladies thus make travel for them safe and secure .Metro was started with four coach train sets, but now with increased ridership 6 and 8 coaches trains are also running on its tracks.Delhi metro has 310 train sets in its fleet as on 15 july 2020.The waiting time for train is about 3 minutes.
